Saint Augustine Photo Tours

Part of Patricia Bean Photography School

Photography tours, reimagined for today’s traveler.

Saint Augustine is the birthplace of Patricia Bean’s Intentional Image Method — a location-based approach to travel photography that teaches travelers how to recognize what draws their attention, visualize an image with purpose, and use composition and light to clearly express their personal experience.

It is the flagship location and signature experience of the Intentional Image Method, created by photographer and educator Patricia Bean.

Saint Augustine Photo Tours is the foundation of Patricia Bean’s Premium Traveler’s Photography System — a growing collection of Guides and Tour Experiences that teach travelers how to think visually, make intentional choices, and create immersive images anywhere they travel.

The difference isn’t the camera. It’s how you see.

Each curated stop along the route is designed as a visual lesson. You are guided to slow down, observe what matters, and make thoughtful choices before pressing the shutter. Through real locations and clear examples, you learn how composition, light, and camera settings work together to support the image you envision.

What You’ll Do

You’ll explore Saint Augustine on foot, following a self-guided photography route shaped by years of photographing these same streets and spaces. At each stop, you’ll be invited to pause, look closely, and make photographs that grow out of what you notice — not just what you pass.

It’s a slower, more thoughtful way to move through the city and a creative way to connect with its history and character.

From exploration to experience

Saint Augustine is where this way of seeing began. The routes below are designed to help you practice it — using real streets, real light, and carefully chosen locations as your guide.

Choose how you’d like to explore.

Self-Guided Photography Tours

Each self-guided tour is a carefully designed visual learning experience built around the Intentional Image Method.

Rather than offering a simple list of places to photograph, each tour walks you through how to think about an image — using real locations as examples. At every stop, you’re shown how composition, light, subject choice, and even camera settings work together to support what you want the photograph to express.

Each location functions as a lesson.

You’ll see:

  • Why a scene works visually — and how composition, light, and structure shape the image

  • What to notice and what to simplify — so your photographs feel intentional, not cluttered

  • How an image is designed — using framing, perspective, and visual flow

  • Which tools or settings support what you envision — without overthinking the camera

  • How historical context informs the image — offering insight into why a location looks the way it does and enriching the choices you make as you compose

Returning in 2026

Patricia Bean is redesigning the Saint Augustine in-person experience as an immersive Intentional Image Photography Experience — created for travelers who want to slow down, focus deeply, and learn through guided visual exploration.

This small-group experience will move beyond a traditional walking tour, incorporating extended time on location, curated routes, and thoughtfully planned accommodations that support creative focus and intentional image-making.

The next Saint Augustine experience is anticipated for October 2026. Details will be announced once the experience is fully designed.

Reflections from a recent participant in the Self-Guided Morning Light Photography Tour.

Photo Tour Guest

How do I begin sharing my reflections on Patricia’s tour? Simply stated? Ahhh-maaaaz-ing! Admittedly, I’m not the best at following maps. Like really not. I have no training in professional photography, but truly wanted to learn skills for taking better photos of beautiful places.

From the start, Patricia’s tour directions were conversational, as one could “hear” an instructional, helpful, supportive voice throughout the morning. It is like having a private walking tour guide along side as a friend. (A really smart friend, who is a master at history and architectural photography).

I observed and photographed details I would have never even noticed prior to the course, and found myself learning to look up, really scan and take-in everything around me. (It has made a lasting impact of how I walk down a street, even today.)

My photos greatly improved, as I read her hints about where to stand and how to lean into specific spots for better image captures. I found myself smiling, as my photos looked better than any I had taken previously. Surprisingly, the map is so easy to follow. Yes, even for me. In fact, navigating the course is fail-proof. I will say it again - the map and the tour are fail-proof. Seamlessly, I was able to go from outstanding photo tips, to walking the town via the map assist, to deeper dives into local history and the incredible significance of specific buildings and monuments through historic St. Augustine. I unequivocally recommend Patricia Bean Photography Morning Light Tour. You will be amazed. Guaranteed.

Early feedback from past in-person guided experiences reflect the foundation of this Intentional Image Method.

Instead of taking an “I was there” photo, Patricia shared great insights on how to capture the mystery in a location.  I’ve been a lifelong photographer, but she showed how the slightest adjustments in camera placement can really make a difference.

Patricia's Photo Tour was a great way to learn more about my iPhone settings and capabilities. Over a relaxing cup of coffee, she shared her experiences as a photographer, as well as helpful tools on the iPhone. I was able to put them immediately to use as we walked through the historical neighborhoods of St. Augustine. Patricia is very personable, helpful and has a wealth of knowledge about the history of the city. It was a fun and energizing experience, and most importantly it reminded me to always be more mindful of my surroundings, and how to identify more photo opportunities that could easily be missed. Thank you Patricia! I highly recommend this tour!
